I had a bad experience in Paris with a French prostitute. She smelled a bit but she said 50 Euro for one hour back at her place. Anyway she offered to kick off with a BBBJ but then she grabbed my balls and demanded I hand over my wallet. In the end I lost about 300 Euros. I went to the police, but they just laughed. Her name is Hermione and she has a small tattoo of a penis on her left shoulder in indigo ink. Beware of her!

I just came from Europe including Paris. I cannot say people are rude or arrogant there, I found people friendlier in London for example but that is just my perception. I was told many negative things before going to France that I was a little nervous. However, people helped me and talked to me in English and of course I tried first with my limited french. No question english is the universal language whether some like it or not, and the tourists I saw having problems were those who did NOT speak either french or english, spanish tourist were a little bit lucky because some people speak spanish there, but no question english is the language.
Expensive? definitively, I found it extremely and that was the negative side. Dirty?, well, I have to be honest that I expected it was cleaner, the landscaping was not really so taken care of as I expected specially near the Eiffel Tower. Very hot in August and no A/C in many places such as restaurants , buses. The metro, I found it a little dirty. London metro I can handle it very well, it is easier.

I love France. There are rude people in every country. I don't find the French more rude than anywhere else and in fact have found them to be polite and friendly, even in Paris and the Dordogne, where they have to put up with gadzillions of foreign visitors. The country is incredibly beautiful, the food is diverse and delicious and the weather is often pleasant.
People who receive bad service regularly should start to ask themselves if they are actually polite themselves. And as for being irrelevant on the world stage, if you mean France doesn't dive into expensive and lengthy remote wars, then that would be something I would be proud of if I were French.

Must say that I am fortunate enough to have travelled extensively with both work and pleasure. France is the only country I will do anything to avoid. People are very rude. Guess they just hate the fact that they are becoming more and more irrelevant on the world stage. No matter what, there is no excuse for bad manners.

Hi i'm Irish and live in the south of france with my boyfriend who is French and I cant speak french. I would just like to say that for english speaking tourists we are blessed that French people can speak english!! All we need to remember is to have a little respect to another persons culture and language. All tourists need to do is try to speak a little French first and if your polite 9/10 chances the person your speaking to can speak english and therefore will speak english to you.

Respect as a tourist for a culture, a language and twords others is the main issue of this topic!! If people dont want to show respect then my advise is not to travel to France.

I've traveled to France and always had a great time. I don't recall anyone being snobby or antisocial. People don't walk about smiling at strangers, beckoning you to Have A Nice Day. It's like any large, bustling city. This summer I sent my son to Paris to study. He too was warned about Americans being disliked and treated badly. When he asked me about it I reminded him that the world is filled with different people and not everyone is as warm and open as our family is to strangers, but they may just be more contained and reserved. Vive la différence! But always keep an open mind and open heart, find the joy and beauty and take advantage of every opportunity to immerse yourself in the wonder and beauty.

I'am always surprised with this dumb Anglosaxon cliche, portraying the French as rude, obnoxious, and other kind of craps. It comes from cultural differences and misperceptions.French are not ET'S. They are like all other peoples on earth.Good and bad, like everywhere. And i can't understand how Anglosaxons are able to judge other peoples with their standards. In my experience,i've found Anglosaxons by far more arrogant and aggressive than the French. Would they appreciate if French tourists were speaking to them directly in French,as many Anglosaxons speak their own language, when they travel overseas ?
You have also to add to this a bit of jealousy, particularly from these nasty Britton tongues, who never miss an occasion to spit on the French. Most of the time, without any valid reason.

that mayby help you understand our attitude (yes I'm from paris :D) :

France remains the country the most visited to the world with 78 million foreign tourists in 2006, among which more than 25 millions in Paris. Nevertheless, France is classified 3rd in term of receipts with a 35 billion euro total.

For information there are 2 millions inhabitants in Paris!!!

I don't want to apologize for being rude but when I give some informations to 15 persons during the day, if the sixteenth isn't polite I won't be helpful for him !

excuse my poor english ;)

if you come in paris this summer I we will be happy to help you et show you how paris can be great !
